perhaps "systematic desensitization"basically included progressive exposure to phobia stimulus and teaching coping strategies e.g. from introducing basic number system (low anxiety) maybe through teaching your child how to count to working on maths homework(high anxiety)during exposure of stimulus you may teach the client relax techniques such as deep breath or meditation

I think this is normal. Some children need special care and education, so I suggest that you simplify some of his lessons in an innovative way so that his fear factor goes away and he feels some confidence. If you cannot do that, you can hire a specialist. He is very smart but needs some guidance and direction .
