How do you calculcate the density of an object?

And what does density mean? I´m not sure I understand the difference between density and mass.

Mass is the amount of substances in an object. Density is a bit more specific, it tells you how much substance there is in a specific amount of space (i.e. volume). Imagine a football and Stone of the exact same dimension. Which one's heavier? They both look the same size. But the stone has more amount of stuff in the same space. It's much easier to explain when I can draw out the explanation.
