"Look-up" is used when you are looking for written information regarding a simple meaning or research. For example, Look this word up in the dictionary. It requires searching some form of literature, academic or non academic. "Look for" will mostly relate to ooking for something physical. For example, "can you look for my glasses". It is possible to "llok for" something physical on a computer using writing etc when you are shopping online for clothes, cars or even insurance. I hope that is clear.

"Look up" generally means to search for information or to consult a reference source, such as a dictionary or encyclopedia. It can also mean to raise one's gaze or head to look at something that is above or higher than one's current position. "Look for" generally means to search for someone or something. It can also mean to try to find or locate something, often by searching through a collection of things. So, in short: "look up" = search for information or consult a reference "look for" = search for someone or something and try to find it.

If you don't know the meaning of a word, you "look it up" in a dictionary. If you want to know wen Marco Polo was born - you "look it up online". Look up ~ check information. ********** You use "look for" when you need to find something. If you can't find your keys - you need to look for them (try to find). If you need to find an English teacher - you say "I am looking for an English teacher" :) Hope that helps!
