It actually depends on your interest and learinging purpose.
Cantonese, as a dialect still popular in Southern China like Guangdong, Hongkong as well as overseas. However, Mandarin, as a nationally recognised standard Chinese, is used by a much bigger population. So if you don't have a specific purpose to learn Cantonese, I would recommend you to start with Mandarin.
