Predominantly I work with the 'communicative approach', languages are there to aid interaction between people so the main emphasis in class is on speaking. However I do believe its still important to revise grammar rules together and to make sure the student understands any new topics before completing exercises at home. While you can study anything on line these days and there are thousands of webpages nothing replaces talking a topic through with a teacher, it cements the learning process.

In conversation classes we can look at popular idioms and pay attention to any grammar mistakes made and why. Look at new vocabulary and focus on topical themes in the news.
