My approach is to tackle the problem of learning as if we were both students learning together. The aim being to teach the student how to ask questions and tear the question apart into something that makes sense to them personally. If you can learn how to learn, and how to research the answers for yourself, then you won't need a tutor in the future.
I have worked with students from a GCSE level to masters students, from exam preparation through to proofreading and supervising dissertations.
