Advert description
I am an audio production, music technology, and DJ skills tutor, with over 20 years of experience teaching privately and in the public sector, and a background in music production having releases on labels such as Giles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings and Bristol imprint Tectonic Recordings.
Proficient in using a wide range of audio production platforms particularly Ableton Live, but also Pro Tools, Cubase, Reason, and Bandlab, I also have in-depth knowledge of production tools such as synthesisers, samplers, and audio processing effects, in hardware and software formats. I am currently completing a master’s degree in Sound Design with a focus on sound design for film, sonification, and podcasts, and I DJ on a semi-regular basis.
I find teaching highly rewarding, and greatly enjoy assisting students on their learning journey. My experience of teaching in a wide range of settings means I am able to form productive and strong rapports quickly with students from various backgrounds. This allows me to better tailor the lessons and sessions to students’ specific needs and wants in terms of music styles and genres, as well as focusing on specific production tools, processes, and disciplines, thus improving the student experience and their success rate.
I have run group and one-to-one courses in DJ skills, music production, creative sound design, and soundscape design, as well as overseeing sound walks and field recording workshops. I particularly like to focus on free or inexpensive, and readily available audio production tools and platforms, helping make what is often seen as an expensive endeavour accessible to all.
Since COVID, I have taught several courses online, including a soundscape design course, which I designed and developed myself, in part as a fulfilment of my master’s degree in Sound Design and I also created and taught a four-week intensive course for a private student in music production using Ableton live. I found this course to be especially rewarding as I was privileged to see the student flourish over the duration of the sessions, helping him to progress to a level of competence where he could work autonomously. Understanding and meeting the student’s needs was an important element of this course, and I was happy to receive very positive feedback from him upon completion of the sessions.
