I have worked as a teaching assistant for children aged 5-11 for 2 years. The teaching experience focused on preparing children for the national SATs where arithmetic and mathematical reasoning were assessed. My approach to tutoring begins by evaluating any misconceptions of content. Then creating tailored 2-3 questions that are complete in a walk-through style (where student and tutor discuss the method); this is the opportune time to ask questions regarding content. Next, the student independently completes questions based on the walk-through and any further clarification is provided. I believe this method works best for providing a solid knowledge base and also helps improve confidence to continue onto more challenging subject matter.
