Advert description
My passion for teaching inspired the transition from the industrial sector to the academic sector. My interest in academia comes from the positive experience of my undergraduate and postgraduate studies. I perceive teaching as an honorable intellectual activity, which besides instructing the students to explore new fields also provides me an opportunity to enhance the understanding of my field of interest.
I believe that critical thinking coupled with the understanding of fundamental physical principles provides the learning foundation of a successful student. My teaching philosophy comprises four tenets (1) motivate students to fully grab the fundamental concepts of science & mathematics (2) guide students to develop critical thinking skills (3) establish the big picture of their field of study through course work (4) train students to become independent learners.
In introductory lectures, I clarify to the participants where we hope to be at the end of the course and how we intend to get there, I adopt a top-down approach. Each student has a different way of learning, some consult textbooks, some need examples, discussion is also an effective learning style for some students. Therefore, I present the content to cater to all learning styles. I do not focus on multimedia but also facilitate discussions with students during online classes. According to a study, the student learns only 5% of what is heard and 90% by mutual discussion. At first, I evaluate the student and then carefully personalize the teaching activities. It helps the student in developing a good sense of the course. I also conduct weekly quizzes, which are designed to develop critical thinking. I employ my extensive experience in science subjects by providing practical examples from my own research. During one-one online interactions with students, I pay more attention to those who are in need of more guidance in their subjects. Using creative teaching methods, I prepare students for an ever-flourishing field of science and mathematics to create their own ideas.
