Advert description
I am a qualified Modern Languages teacher (QTS) and have a PGCE from Goldsmiths University. I have a degree in French and Spanish from the University of Exeter (2:1). I have two years of experience teaching in Secondary schools in London. I currently teach 21 hours of French a week to pupils ranging from age 11-16 at a school which was rated as an Outstanding school by Ofsted, upon inspection in July 2023.
I am passionate about boosting my students’ confidence in French and helping them improve in all areas: listening, speaking (including phonics), reading and writing and I am very familiar with the EdExCel GCSE curriculum and the 2024 changes to this. After having agreed a learning gap or focus area with my student ahead of the lesson, I will create a lesson objective and create a series of purposeful tasks, sequenced in a way that best allows my pupils to achieve the key learning by the end of the lesson and overcome any barriers/misconceptions that my expert subject knowledge allows me to predict could arise in advance.
My lessons tend to consist of the following:
- first task recalls prior learning from previous lesson, to ensure prior learning is built on and not lost.
- multiple choice questions designed carefully to uncover any misconceptions. I can then adapt my lesson to respond to these and re-teach if necessary, before moving on with the lesson.
-model answers with a range of tasks to get pupils engaged and thinking about what makes a successful answer.
-pre-planned questions at key points in the lesson, to ensure my students have understood key concepts and are ready to move on.
-error spotting tasks, to consolidate key learning and deepen thinking and understanding.
-KS3 and KS4 exam style questions and exam strategies (reading comprehensions, listening tasks, speaking exam practice, writing practice).
-an 'exit' task, that allows me to assess whether my student has achieved the lessons objective, to help inform the focus of the next lesson.
My teaching approach is friendly, calm, patient and encouraging and my pupils tell me they feel safe and confident making mistakes in my lessons.
I would be very happy to have an initial conversation free of charge to discuss goals and objectives ahead of organising a first lesson. I look forward to hearing from you!
