I have a tefl certificate as well as a degree in Physics. I am also a former Cambridge Speaking Examiner.
The aim of English Language Instructor's work is to say 'Goodbye'.
Candidates require an accredited and accountable level of language for their work, studies and/or interests. Therefore English classes need to aimed at enabling participants to meet internationally accepted criteria. These levels are illustrated by the Common European Framework (CEF) and describe in great detail the levels of knowledge of a language. This professional approach is set out in a series of 'Can Do' statements that cover all four skills of a language (reading, writing, listening and speaking). Once these levels are met, then the instructor can safely say 'Goodbye' to their student. (Not necessarily on a personal level but purely professional!)
