My lessons are tailored to suit the needs of my students. Initially, I discuss those needs with a student then structure my classes accordingly. So, for example, if a person has only a basic understanding of the language, I will start with sentence structure, then introduce rules concerning subject and verb agreement, use of conjunctions, use of punctuation, tenses etc. I focus too on vocabulary to enable my student to converse or write competently and cohesively in English in general, or within his or her field of work or interest.
When appropriate, I will set a task, a quiz, or homework for a student. Between lessons, I will assess the student's responses to those tasks and discuss these and any concerns the student has at the start of the next lesson.
At the start of each lesson too, I discuss the concepts to be covered that day and their relevance to my student.
I might also use visual aids, such as flash cards or a whiteboard, to explain aspects of the language that could be tricky to grasp.
Though committed to my students' success and giving them my full attention at all times, I have a relaxed approach in my classes and aim for my lessons to be fun. I want my students to look forward to every class!
I pride myself on being an excellent communicator and am readily available to answer any queries or provide further details about my teaching philosophy and expertise.
