I offer 1:1 support to enable you to achieve your potential in English and maths

Advert description
I am a qualified teacher with 15 years of teaching experience both in schools and privately as a 1:1 tutor. I teach in person and also online. My students come from lots of different cultural backgrounds and are at various stages of their educational journey.

For the last 5 years I have focused on tutoring students privately in English and maths full-time. I support students to access and become more confident in numeracy from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 3, and provide students with support in verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning, although most of my teaching is now in the subject of English.

Many of my students speak English as a second language as well as having to prepare for formal assessments in English. Consequently, I often support students to develop their speaking, listening and reading skills in English whilst simultaneously helping them to prepare for more rigorous academic examinations which require analysis of language and literature, creative writing skills and sound grammatical knowledge. Over the years as a teacher, I have worked successfully with children to help them become literate in English, to succeed in the 11 plus and in English Language and English Literature GCSE exams in addition to helping adult learners to prepare for fluency in English exams such as IELTS.

A crucial part of language acquisition and learning to think critically is to be able to harness self-knowledge and develop study skills as well as reflect on your own learning with the support of a teacher. This is an essential part of the student and teacher relationship. I am a very resilient and patient person so I will help students through difficulties and keep persevering until we have overcome any problems that arise.

I enjoy an excellent rapport with both parents and students and I have often continued to teach children from primary level, right through their secondary education, as well as teach younger siblings from the same family. I understand that students need to be emotionally engaged to get the most benefit from their learning so I value any opportunity to speak with parents to keep them up to speed with their children's progress and to discuss strategies for learning and provision of support for their children. At the heart of learning is the individual student, their knowledge and their perceptions. From there, with help, all children can progress.
