ABOUT ME
Simon started his teaching career as a music teacher, but was forced to change tack through a hearing impairment. He went back to university to Computer Science graduating with first class honours.
He taught A Level Computer Science for 15 years at a sixth form college in Cambridge, and also co-founded the Computing At School group advocating for Computer Science in the classroom and supporting teachers tasked with teaching this new subject.
Simon was awarded the Kavli Education Medal by The Royal Society in 2020 for his contribution to Computer Science Education.
THE LESSON(S)
Each lesson is an hour long, with content determined by student and tutor. A variety of techniques are employed through explanations, guidance, questioning and recall using largely originally created resources. Challenges are set for both programming and theory. The emphasis being on encouraging the student to grasp the fundamental concepts of the subject and learn how to apply them constructively as they progress in their understanding of the subject.
Any programming language is accepted though Python, C#, C or Java preferred.
