why do we tend to forget newly learnt vocabulary easily ?!

have you ever found yourself struggling to recall a new word you learnt by heart in another language? We've all been there don't worry!

This blog is mainly interested in discussing how vocabulary is acquired, and how the following techniques will help you remember better.

learning new words is almost the same in every language, there are some common words that can be easily caught, and others would take time and a whole process. However, the good news is all kinds of words you want to learn are possibly, certainly obtainable.

learning always contributes to creating new mental connections and paths in the brain, so our job is to strengthen these ties and connections.

  • One of the methods you can adopt is repetition, this is an effective way to engrave any information you wish to keep for so long. repeat the word you want to learn as much as possible, if that word exists in the outside world, try to find it, such as 'table'. Visual aids tend to help tighten the concept in the brain.
  • Another method is 'put it in a sentence', if your level allows you to do that, try to put this word in a sentence, this technique can help you understand better how this word is connected to other words, and how to correctly use it.  For instance: the word " imagination"  my child has a wild imagination
  • The next one is learning through audio. This technique allows you to acquire any vocabulary through listening to it, you can find many clips on Youtube channels, social media ... etc
  • the cards method, write the new word on a card or a small piece of paper so that you can go back to it and check it anytime you like
  • Engage the four skills, make use of the four skills, write it down, read it multiple times, say it out loud, and listen to it.

the key to remembering any word is to make some effort. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT, it takes some time for our brain to get used to the new language, so it is highly important to take it easy and allow yourself to enjoy the process.
