Tips to Adjust Teaching to your Students Needs

If you see that a student is struggling to sit still and learn, try and adjust your learning techniques into more engaging ways.

First of all, always encourage to hear feedback from your students to see what works best for them. They might help generate ideas about how they like learning. I would recommend that the first five minutes of each session you ask them how their week was and to generally engage in non-content conversations to engage them from the start.

After that initial conversation, go about how you usually would teach your student. I like using presentations to write down any content based material and questions. Presentations are a really effective tool as you can make it super engaging for your student with visual aids, which is encouraged in teaching.

Other than the basic problem-and-solve technique, I want to make a lesson fun. You can do that through doing fun games. This can be done through kahoot or any other platform that you know of - you are just a google search away from finding "fun math games online". Also, if a student likes competition, I would recommend doing a fun mini quiz to keep them on their toes.

Additionally, including visual aids is a must. I would recommend through a presentation but in general adding images is always best. The more words a student sees the more scared and lost they might be, so definitely try to include visual aids.

Another important thing to remember, learning is tough. Taking a few minutes break halfway through the lesson can go a long way for helping to refocus the students attention. In this break you can ask them questions about what is working well for them and what they want to see more. If they have any questions or if they are struggling with something and need help.

And always always always, encourage them to ask questions. Its the only way they can learn!
