Whilst my Primary degrees are in Biochemistry I have a diploma in translating and interpreting. I speak french to professional fluency as I have lived there on and off over the years as well as using my french daily to teach international students at Loughborough university. I also translate for our Spanish speaking students, though my level is not as expert as my french. I found my language classes at school to be somewhat lacking and can understand why many people do not thrive as perhaps they could in that environment. To that end I try to make language learning for my students methodical, with clear purpose and as relaxed and fun as possible. I believe we learn our mother tongues with such ease because we want the interaction and communication with our parents/guardians and friends. It's my view that this is the attitude we should aim to encourage in our extra language learning. I have the specifications of the UK's major exam boards at my disposal as well as teaching materials and mock exam papers. I am happy to tutor to specification for those that need it or to act as a conversation partner for those who are hoping to learn a more realistic day to day language skill ahead of their travels. I can prepare a wide range of topic materials in advance to help facilitate targeted language acquisition for those with specific needs. I believe the three years of tutoring which I embarked on during lock down has really helped me to be able to develop an understanding of my students needs and learning styles so that I can tailor my approach to best aid their learning from lesson one. I think it is important to have an initial interaction to lay down the goals as well as understand which learning style will be the most fun and productive, for this there will be no charge.
