I spent 6 years working as a TA in a small village school, specialising in reading, writing and maths support. I worked with small groups of children who found accessing the main curriculum challenging due to difficulties such as autism, DLD, ADHD and dyslexia. After gaining qualifications in supporting teaching and learning, understanding autism and specific learning difficulties, I went on to study for my PGCE with the University of Exeter. This school-based training allowed me to develop my teaching practice in several different environments, leading to Qualified Teacher Status in June this year.
I am currently working as a supply teacher across all year groups and am keen to grow a tutoring business to support students who may find our existing school structures challenging to thrive in and ensure they have the opportunity to retain, or rediscover, a love of learning.
I love to use interactive tools that allow students to try without fear, with creativity at the heart of everything I do, as when a child loses the fear of failure they find their capability for learning soars. My lessons allow for modelling, practicing and challenging and feedback is instant, to ensure misconceptions are addressed.
Working together, in an individual way that is tailored to each student's needs, we can focus on general concepts from the curriculum, develop homework strategies to practice or target specific learning requirements.
I also offer phonics support alongside early reading and writing to build confidence alongside ability in children who find these skills challenging.
