Advert description
I have 27 years experience as an ESOL tutor, working at various colleges throughout Yorkshire. This has included Bradford, Leeds, Wakefield and Doncaster. I have qualifications in teaching, including Adult Teacher and Trainer in ESOL AND PTLLS. I have prepared students with a 100 % pass rate, for exams in Trinity and City and Guilds.
At the present time, I work for a local community centre, preparing the students for their A1, A2 and B1 exams, through Trinity College.
I have my own transport so I can travel to see students to improve their English.
In the past, I have worked with Asian students, as well as Polish, Romanian, Russian, Ukraine and Spanish.
I believe that the best way to learn languages when you are an Adult is through visual props to assist communication, confidence building to believe you can learn with some fun language drills to remember the dialogue.
I have a vast amount of resources from my long period of teaching. I do believe in an initial and diagnostic assessment , at the beginning, to know the level of English each student has and their strengths and weaknesses. From that a series of targets can be implemented within a set timeframe , to be agreed with the student and that gives both partners something to work towards. I listen to the students and I am keen to have their input and ideas so there would be reviews to check how well the targets are going. Throughout all of this it still needs to be fun and engaging as that actually assists with the learning process.
I do like to use slide shows at each lesson to cover the topic for each period. This can be animated or one of my own ESOL shows. This provides variation. Roleplays are also important and by watching a scenario and practising the dialogue, a roleplay can be created between a student and the tutor.
Myself and a student will evaluate the lesson together at the end and I always appreciate a student saying if it was useful or how they would like it different.
